GK Connect: an educational society chat and messaging app
GK Connect gave the members of an international honour society a place of their own. Ethora powered the chat and messaging layer and a cross-platform iOS and Android app, connected to the society’s existing member records so students, teachers and organisers signed in with the credentials they already had.

Overview
About GK Connect
GK Connect was built as a social space for members of the Golden Key International Honour Society, an academic honour society recognising high-achieving students across universities worldwide. Its members are spread across countries, campuses and graduating years, and the society brings together three quite different groups: the organisers who run chapters, the teachers and faculty who support them, and the students themselves.
The challenge. A membership society already knows exactly who its members are, and that record lives in its CRM, not in a chat product. Any member app therefore had to solve two problems at once: give people somewhere genuinely useful to talk, and make signing in feel like a continuation of their existing membership rather than yet another account to create. On top of that, an academic society deals constantly in credentials, and a certificate is only worth as much as its provenance.
The solution. The early Ethora engine provided the chat and messaging layer and a cross-platform member app, with a purpose-built bridge to the society’s existing member records and a verifiable trail for the certificates members uploaded.
The solution
What Ethora delivered
A member app that met people where their membership already lived, with recognition and credentials built into the conversation.
Chat and messaging for the whole society
Real-time messaging and rooms connecting organisers, teachers and students across chapters, campuses and countries.
Cross-platform member app
One app published to both iOS and Android, so no part of the membership was left waiting on a second build.
Social sign-on
Members signed in with Facebook, Google, Apple or MetaMask, removing the password step that costs a community its quieter members.
CRM integration bridge
A HubSpot integration let society members sign in to the app using their existing membership credentials, so the app inherited the member list instead of rebuilding it.
Verified email account linking
Members who signed in socially could connect that login to their existing society record through a verified email link, joining the two identities without a support ticket.
Peer recognition and rewards
A tokenized points mechanism let members recognise each other for sharing useful educational content, turning contribution into something visible and rewarded.
Verifiable certificates
The engine’s native web3 API created an immutable trail for uploaded educational certificates, so a credential could be checked later without relying on the original issuer’s inbox.
Inside the build
Membership you already have, sign-in you do not have to think about
The hardest part of launching a community app for an existing organisation is rarely the chat. It is identity. Members already exist somewhere, usually in a CRM, and asking them to create a parallel account is the fastest way to lose the half of the community that was only ever mildly interested.
GK Connect solved this in two layers. Social sign-on removed the password entirely: a member tapped Facebook, Google, Apple or MetaMask and was in. A HubSpot integration bridge then connected that login to the society’s existing membership record, with a verified email linking step to prove the two identities belonged to the same person. The result was an app that recognised its members on the first launch.
The outcome
One place for a society that lives across many campuses
GK Connect gave organisers, teachers and students a shared space that recognised them from the first launch, rewarded the members who contributed, and made the certificates they earned verifiable. The pattern, chat plus an existing member database plus a credential that holds up later, is one every membership organisation, alumni network and professional body runs into.
