API integration
The process of connecting different software applications through APIs so they can exchange data and share functionality. In Ethora, API integration is how you extend or replace the pre-built app engine when your project needs something more specific.
General definition
API integration is the process of connecting different software applications via APIs to enable seamless data exchange and functionality. Instead of rebuilding features from scratch, systems talk to each other through well-defined endpoints — passing requests and responses back and forth.
This lets separate tools behave as one: a legacy system, a new frontend and a third-party service can all stay in sync without a person moving data between them by hand.
API integration in Ethora
Within Ethora, API integration is the route to take when the pre-built, white-labelled app engine doesn’t quite fit your requirements. It’s available across Ethora’s SDK offerings — the Chat SDK, AI SDK and Documents Wallet SDK. Two use cases are especially common:
- Account synchronization — align user account creation and deletion between your legacy systems and Ethora, so employees or customers keep their existing workflows while gaining new chat and AI capabilities.
- Custom frontend development — if you’re happy with Ethora’s backend but need a heavily customised interface, use lower-level components like the Ethora NPM Chat Component to build your own UI while calling Ethora’s API where needed.
